30ft x 15ft 'O' gauge Lionel layout
This layout was custom built for a client. It was modelled after Canadian Pacific Railways Calgary to Vancouver track system which runs through the Rocky Mountains of Western Canada.
 | The layout measures 30ft x 15ft and includes two 8ft helixes, one of which is the spiral tunnel in the Kicking Horse Pass. Another of the main features of this project is a 4ft drawbridge that opens in the middle of the span to provide the operator with access to the computer control system in the centre of the layout. |
This is a one-of-a-kind bridge that has been made completely from sheet brass and is operated by a custom designed gear system which is tied to the control computer.
| The digital control system is from Zimo in Austria and the control software is from STP in Germany. The layout included a model of Banff Springs Hotel which was made from 3D laser-cut components. Stoney Creek Bridge, the world famous arced bridge in Rogers Pass, was also modelled entirely from brass. |  |
The Lionel AC locomotive motors were modified to operate on DC. The entire system can be operated under computer control or run manually with the push of a button. It's even possible to use both methods simultaneously.
